Why You Should Know Associated Press Style

There are a large number of writers in the world right now, doing what they can in an attempt to earn money for them and their families. While some of these writers might be educated and some might not be, they all realize that it is extremely important for them to know a wide variety of writing styles in order for them to maximize the work that they are able to do for their important clients. While some clients might want the writers who work for them to write blog posts and others might need MLA-style essays written for various reasons, most require their writers to have a solid understanding of Associated Press style. This is important for a number of reasons, especially considering that the bulk of any professional writer’s assignments will likely be pieces requiring an understanding of technical writing.

Since many professional writers are not out there writing pieces of fiction for money, it makes sense that Associated Press style is the most important writing style in the industry. It is upfront and to the point. This styles makes sure that writers are able to keep stories simple and readable by everyone who happens upon the page. It also requires very little creativity because the rules of the style are extremely rigid and exact. This becomes evident just by going to any popular news website and reading any of the stories posted there for the general public. The point is made clear on the very first sentence and the story itself is very clear and organized. It looks clean and people understand exactly what they are reading from the start.

If you are an experienced or aspiring writer and you do not understand the basics of Associated Press style, learn it immediately or your career will suffer.
